Vermicompost and Organic farming.

Image
As we see in the modern world, there are lots of chemical fertilizers available to the farmers in India for better production of crops. But before the Green Revolution, Indian farmers were doing only natural farming. After decades of green revolution, we are now seeing the ill effects of chemical fertilizers. The use of pesticides kills thousands of species of insects adapted to agriculture. Small birds like sparrows are on the verge of extinction, earthworms have become extinct, pollinators (bees, butterflies ) are being killed by chemicals, people are suffering a lot by eating chemical-rich grains. It has been said in some reports that cancer patients are increasing in Punjab due to these chemical-rich fertilizers. But then what is the solution? Organic farming is the only solution. Natural farming was being done in India before the Green Revolution, so why not now? Some farmers disclosed that even after doing natural farming for one year they are not getting proper production, this ...

Different types of earthworms

There are three main types of earthworms, epigeic, endogeic, aniseic species. These different species of worms differ in size and feeding habits. Epigeic are small in size and feed mainly on plant litter and animal feces. Where as Endogeic are medium sized worms, and are soil feeders. Aneceic  are large in size and feed on leaf litter mixed with the upper layers of soil. Eisenia fetida is an epigeic species used mainly for  Vermicomposting in India. Eisenia fetida has the highest rate of reproduction, with the population doubling every 3 months under the right conditions. Eisenia fetida reaches a maximum length of 6cm–14cm, and has a yellow tail. They emit a foul odor in dangerous situations. CLIMATE Esenia fetida species work well in temperatures between 0-30°C. Shades play an important role in protecting from direct sunlight. Make sure the bed is not too hot. Vermi beds should not be too moist. Vermicomposting uses earthworms , oxygen and moisture to safely break down organic material with few odors. Basically, worm do most of the heavy lifting, and bacteria also helps. Red worms are favourites for this type of composting.   Earthworm : Eisenia fetida , known under various common names such as manure worm, red worm, red wiggler worm etc, is a species of earthworm adapted to decaying Organic material.              Vermicomposting Units in Punjab             AmHuman Organic is doing a great job in Vermicomposting in Mukerian (Punjab).
