Different types of earthworms
Epigeic are small in size and feed mainly on plant litter and animal feces. Where as Endogeic are medium sized worms, and are soil feeders.
Aneceic are large in size and feed on leaf litter mixed with the upper layers of soil.
Eisenia fetida is an epigeic species used mainly for Vermicomposting in India. Eisenia fetida has the highest rate of reproduction, with the population doubling every 3 months under the right conditions. Eisenia fetida reaches a maximum length of 6cm–14cm, and has a yellow tail. They emit a foul odor in dangerous situations.
CLIMATE
Esenia fetida species work well in temperatures between 0-30°C. Shades play an important role in protecting from direct sunlight. Make sure the bed is not too hot. Vermi beds should not be too moist. (Test it by squeezing, not more than 5 drops of liquid should come out)
Remember-
Earthworms suffer in direct sunlight make sure they are not exposed to direct sunlight. They will not leave the house there, they are very sensitive to vibrations. Make sure your actions don't bother them. Earthworms are very important for our environment, make sure we create a healthy habitat for them.
